To be at the very Western edge of our North American continent is an amazing thing, really. Living in California, a granddaughter of immigrants - all four of them - I can’t help think that my ancestors have been moving West, towards that proverbial pot-of-gold, for many thousands of years so that further generations could have this sweet life. I must live the best life I can, to honor this hard work and and travel that it took to get here.
There is no further to go that will be more like home or provide more opportunity. This is it. It can all be done here, in this great country. But I have seen regression in the leadership of this country. Mostly that all its people, who are just human, after all, and just want to love and be loved are not being treated equally. This is nothing new, but I hear of unkind words and behavior from people in leadership roles that are being accepted as OK.
We need to move away from such inhumane behavior. We must treat others as we wish to be treated. We must must eradicate this mindset of “us and them” if we want to survive as a country and be admired as the great free land our immigrant ancestors strived to build. (Yes. Every American has immigrant ancestors). •
