My onion rot trial is beginning to reveal its results. The Vegetable Garden suffers from onion white rot which is endemic and for which there's no control measures available. The spores last in soil for years, so once you've got it, it's there to stay. But there is some hope!!! In the foreground is the common variety, Sturon, grown from onion sets and it's got a bad case of onion white rot. However behind it is Golden Bear, a White Rot tolerant variety which I grew from seed. It looks like it will produce a decent crop but watch out for updates in the coming weeks. Do you suffer from the dreaded onion white rot on your plot? How are yours doing?
