I couldn't sleep last night so got up at 5am for my yoga practice. We all know yoga has amazing benefits for the body and for the mind, but for me it's also my chance to stop and breathe.
I have noticed that when I'm sitting at my desk ploughing through work I'm not breathing properly. My breathing is very shallow, sometimes I notice I've even held my breathe for a short time, let alone the fact I'm not sitting correctly. I find it leaves me with blocked energy and feeling sluggish.
But Ah yoga, that chance to stretch the body (you know I love hip and psoas work especially), realign, mediate and concentrate on my breathing, it calms my mind and reduces my anxiety and stress. Pranayama can help purify the blood and respiratory system and enriches the blood with oxygen, relaxes your muscles and increases your energy levels, what's not to love!
