For a couple years now I’ve been searching for a race as epic as the infamous 2016 @spartan Race Owls Head #UltraBeast and I must say I got what I asked for at Mt. Killington Vermont Ultra Beast.
I don’t need to act tough or pretend like that course didn’t hurt. It humbled me, even though I came in first place it hurt and was not easy. After the insanely heavy and long carries and viscous ascents and the condition of my poor little toes haha and being 25kms and 6000 elevation in I really did ask myself how I am going to do another lap of that? But then you think of your friends, teammates and fellow Spartans on the mountain fighting the same fight, and you think about all the shit you’ve already went through, and you stand the ef back up, take a deep breath and keep fighting forward to the finish line, getting pulled off the course, or death. Whatever One comes first.
The 2nd lap, going up those ascents, sometimes it slips in why the hell you do this?? then you get to the finish line, look back at the monster you did, the same kid who couldn’t run a lap around the block without stopping or do one pull up in front of his peers in his high school gym test and fail every freakin thing and you remember.
That’s what changes you.
Be so freaking proud everyone who crossed that finish line!
So many highlights from that trip from seeing @sea__schell smiling at the top of Death March, @reneeabrenica having a great race and happy I didn’t catch her 👏🏼👏🏼, @mikema_416 crushing it and getting on the podium, running into @helenxannabelle Twice on the course 😊 And @sectumsampra and @johawkful crossing that 🏁 of something way out of their comfort zone they worked their asses off for, and @leo_vitelli finishing the Ultra one week after crushing a 100 miler.
