Tellison, The Maple State, Olympians , The Lexington, 22.04.18
2018 has been my best year for a long time in terms of live music, and tonight I hit my 20th show of the year at one of my favourite venues in London.
We arrived just in time to catch the end of Olympians set; I’ll definitely be giving them another listen - sonically they sat very much in the Venn diagram of the other two bands on the bill.
It’s been a real treat to have @themaplestate back with new music and playing shows and I really hope that this is an ongoing venture. In addition to the singalongs at the end of Temperate Lives, my firm highlight of the set was Cannonball - from this year’s Things We Heard at the Party...the guitar solo is just a little bit swoony, and I can definitely see it as the inspiration for a summer day drive mix.
In addition to being my 20th show of the year, tonight was also my 40th @tellisontalk show. It’s been a joy to see them play so much over the last decade or so, and I always leave having sang and danced my socks off, and with a big smile on my face. Set highlights: the rare and big data inspired rare outing for 2011’s Tell it to Thebes, Wasp’s Nest, Letter to the Team, and my all-time favourite Disaster! Disaster! It’s a special feeling when even after this long the favourites make your heart beat that little bit more quickly. It’s been great to be able to introduce new friends to the shows, and I’m excited for that to continue as new music arrives. & major Greta Gerwig t-shirt envy; I love her so much.
