“Claret Dreams” (Alpaugh, 2010) is the wonderful story of Ian MacCoren and his journey from the Isle of Arran to Troon and the 1962 Open Championship. Armed with his grandfather’s golf clubs, handmade by family friend Old Tom Morris, good fortune allows Ian the chance to compete and chase his own dream. (17May18)

Ceremony of introduction to the post of Captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews. The position of Captain of the club was designated, from the foundation of the club in 1754, to the winner of the championship of the club that was celebrated annually in the month of October. The captain, among other duties, was responsible for resolving the disputes that occurred on the playing field, what would now be the referee. Over time young players began to win the championship and since they were not prepared to carry out the obligations associated with the position, they had to change the selection system of the captaincy and they did it in a very original way that has been maintained until our days: the candidate chosen as captain is the only participant of the championship, and once the first shot is hit he is declared the winner and therefore captain of the club. In the photograph we see the ceremony of Mr A.J. Balfour (Prime Minister of the United Kingdom) with Tom Morris acting as starter in October 1894.
