Double dosage of Mezcal for you today, why? Well the other day I was talking with Jaylee from @mollysspirits about the popularity of the Oaxaca Old-Fashioned. During this conversation I turned my back on my whisky background and boldly proclaimed that, “The Oaxaca Old-Fashioned is BETTER than it’s whiskey counterparts.”
I’m ready to stand before my whisky community to defend my stance!
* 1.5 ounces reposado tequila
* 1 ounce Mezcal
* 2 dashes of angostura bitters
* Two bar spoons of cinnamon simple syrup
Stir over ice and pour over a cube in an old-fashioned glass. Give it a spritz of flamed orange peel and garnish with a smoldering cinnamon stick.
I usually use a cheaper house Mezcal, but I wanted to showcase the Mezcal Vago Ensamble en Barro. The Ensamble en Barro has a beautiful ancient clay oven taste with a mineral earthen smoke profile. Mezcal Vago is one that I highly recommend supporting.
