The Okinawan people are much like native Hawaiians. Their greatest similarity lies in their history as an independent nation who was colonized by and brought into another nation. However, unlike Hawaiians, their history continues to be oppressed by the Japanese and their culture is slowly dying out. Yesterday I participated in a symposium with Okinawan students, teachers, and community members to discuss the need to perpetuate this culture due to its integral role in the identity of the Okinawan people. Today I’m proud to say I am half Okinawan—not Japanese. . . . #art#japan#okinawan#okinawa#okinawanart#pen#doodle#ink#sketch#illustration#illust#graphic#sketchbook#instaart#instaartist
I took my grandpa’s paintings from his desk when he past away 30yrs ago and still with me at my restaurant...30年前にオジィが家で亡くなった。
Hiljattain menin arvostamaan näyttelyä Japanin kansantaidemuseoon. Tällä museolla on monta Okinawan kansantaidetta. Esimerkiksi kudontia, "Bingata"värjäyksiä ja keramiikkataidetta ja niin edelleen. Ne olivat todella kauniita!! Sitä paitsi Tämä museon rakennus on mahtava!
We met this precious lady a day after her 77th birthday. She operates an amazing shell art shop at her home, and goes on to tell us that she forgot about her own birthday! We had a great dinner and then decided to bring back to her a piece of birthday cake :) My heart was so warm when she offered me this seashell mobile. #bise # okinawa #shellart#okinawan#art#okinawanart#expatlife
