About a week or so ago marked the 2 years since I started my sketchbook 😬
Mind you, many folks would have probably like 10 sketchbooks filled within a 2 year span, but I'm a slow ass.
I've always been slow at filling sketchbook, not like it's a problem for me since I REALLY HATE starting new sketchbooks.
Now I feel like with everything I do (stickers, separate illustrations, painting, digital art and my job) I rarely have time to sketch in my sketchbook. I used to draw in my old sketchbooks everyday since I would do that while I was in school.
I promised myself that I would stop neglecting my sketchbook, I'm hoping I can do that. With around 200+ pages, I'm so far from being done.
When I first starting getting serious with art back when I was around 12-13, I finally got myself a sketchbook (a real shitty one) and I made it as neat and clean as possible. I made sure all my drawings looked their best and looked clean and proper. Even the actual sketchbook I made sure didn't get dirty or anything.
I don't know why I did this but I just did. I was also frustrated and worried that something wouldn't turn out that good, and stressed about it.
All the way up until 2013, when I started my first Moleskine sketchbook. And I decided to be a bit "messier" with it. And since then, I've been a lot more happier with my sketchbooks.
Draw doodles and shit drawings in your sketchbook. Try out color palettes and different schemes right next to your drawings. Tape stuff in there that gives you inspiration. Who cares if you don't finish a drawing, try it again later!
Be happy with your sketchbook. Do not worry about trying to be neat and making every drawing look good. Sketchbooks are there to help you express your ideas!
Don't worry about what other people's sketchbooks look like. Or don't worry about other artists finishing sketchbooks quicker than you. Hell I'm on 2 years and this is all I've got.
Do your own thing!
