Cast divination for Orunmila
Venturing to become Olokun's priest
He prescribed everything in 200s
Un-packable we packed money
We cannot finish the water in the ocean
The sun does not beat Iroko tree on one spot
If it beats it standing, the other side will be healthy
If it beats one side the previous side will be strong

Life is filled with paradoxes. Sometimes, what seems like a contradiction is actually a great complement. Principles that seem to oppose one another can actually attract each other. What you experience in your most vulnerable state can propel you to your greatest achievement. In fact, there are times when that which you need most desperately is what you want least of all.

Few places stir passion the way that Nigeria does: the breathtaking beauty of Abeokuta's rocky hills, the birthplace of Yemoja, the serene stillness of the Osun River, the mosaic tin roofs of Ibadan, and the slave dungeons of Badagry all reveal the timeless beauty of Yoruba heritage. The Babalawo's hypnotic recitation of Ifa chants and the quiet prayers of Olorisas in their personal shrines all reflect how religious devotion runs through every facet of life here in the land of the Orisa.
In Nigeria, Orisa Lifestyle is all-pervasive. It is embedded in the land, the rivers, the trees, the flora and the fauna. The brilliant fabrics, savory foods, as well as the elaborate festivals all bring the tradition to life in uncountable ways. Join us as we celebrate the wonders of Yoruba tradition with world class teachers, priests, artists and everyday people.

When back up arrives, dancing to Fuji rhythm, all you can do is give thanks! Nigeria is where fond memories are made in NOLLYWOOD fashion. The blazing hot sun, intense pepper soup and ice cold beer, the dazzling fabrics, swarms of street vendors and endless litany of greetings and prayers. This is the birthplace of the Orisa, the cradle of Ancestral Promise, the father culture of the African diaspora. Thank Olodumare for Yorubaland! I pray that your dreams come true as wonderfully as you have made mine do so. Àse. Until next year, odigba o!

We are back in the Bay, feeling thankful and thoughtful. Nigeria was splendid in so many ways. Now, it's time to handle this jet lag! Then, it's back to business. So many exciting products, services and ideas are forthcoming in the OrisaLifestyle Academy's 2018-19 calendar. I hope you're ready to upgrade your learning experience!
But for now, I just give thanks and praise to Olodumare, to Ifa, to my mother of blessed memory, to my ori and to my wonderful friends, Ifabukola Ajoke Ajetunmise (aka Tasha the great traveller), Chief Lanre Okemuyiwa and the entire Nigerian family! You know who you are!!! May all of your lives be enriched. May you progress and be counted among the great contributors to our tradition. May you have cause to rejoice. Àse!

When the priestesses start the litany of Egbe praise, offerings and devotion, it's refreshing, like rain. I just felt like rejoicing the entire time. And there was plenty time to rejoice! I think they prayed, sang and offered Kola for at least an hour. It was epic! Are you ready for next year?

Egbe is about friendship and binding relationships. We eat together. We dance together. We drink together. We even dress alike! Many thanks to my good brother, Dotun for this image.

The Iya Olorisa made magic in everything they did. So much joy. So much power. So much talent. I was especially impressed by the way they moved like a unit. Everyone was keenly aware of the other and they continuously adjusted to maintain smooth operations.

There are things that we must avoid because they belong to this world and have visible effects. There are things we must do because they do not belong to this world and have on visible effects.

We partied hearty for Egbe and now it's time to pack up the goods and head home! People LOVE Yoruba culture because... well, it's just awesome! But the celebratory nature of the culture is overwhelming.
EVERYBODY dances and sings. And even if you've got two left feet - like me - the best dancers will laugh at you and encourage you to keep on grooving! After all, as long as Orisa has accepted us, why not accept one another?

Ifa and Orisa work hand in hand for the good of all. As fate would have it, we participated in a double initiation - orisa and Ifa- and a double Ifa festival. At every turn, the overlap between Ifá and orisa practices was pronounced. One system complements the other. Here, the orisa initiates were coming to pay homage to Esu, which required them to pass through the ritual space of the Ifá initiate... Esu is the equalizer with whom all devotees must reckon!

This is ekuru funfun being prepared by a third generation Yoruba food maker. Her grandmother taught her to make akara, ekuru and eko when she was just a child in Ilè Ife. She says, anything pertaining to Yoruba food craft she knows! I will taste the ekuru and let you know! I'm confident that she is skilled!!! Obafemi Origunwa, MA | ObafemiO.com

Culture is your blueprint for happiness. Disneyland is fun! But that's not happiness. Nobody lives in Disneyland. Ifa is deep culture. It is timeless tradition. It is the nucleus of yoruba identity. It binds the yoruba to the laws of creation. It grounds the culture in its very inception. What Ifa does for the individual, it also does for the yoruba as a whole.
I'm not talking about mere abstractions, like binary code, a handful of deities and a compilation of songs. I'm talking about layer upon layer of customs that conceal mysteries and reveal simple realities at the same time. Life is a journey. Happiness comes as you distinguish yourself as a unique contributor to the shared experience of life.
That which keeps you along the way is beyond your understanding but it is in sync with your very essence. Follow the path, but also pay attention. Express yourself fully and partake of the expressions of others. Live the medicine.

When Ogun entered the forest, he was armed with powerful weapons, charms and all the confidence of an experienced hunter. But over and again, he came up empty handed. And so, he went to consult Orunmila. Ifa informed Ogun that the powerful women had been scattering his game. Ifa advised Ogun to sacrifice and to appease the Elders of the Night. Ogun complied.
The next day, when he entered the forest, armed and experienced, but no longer obstructed by the Elders of the Night, Ogun captured antelope. He captured buffalo. He captured elephant! Ogun progressed!
May you enjoy progress today. Àse! May all obstructions be removed from your path. Àse! May you succeed where you had failed before. Àse!

Power draws people, like moths to flame. There is something irresistible about the ability to do. However, the road to empowerment is also perilous. In the pursuit of power, many grasp at, and are content with mere symbols of power.

Control for example, is sometimes confused for power. When you can make people do certain things and not do others, it seems like you have power over them. It is only when the hand of fate causes something to happen despite your greatest efforts to exercise control that you realise the fact that it is only a symbol of power.

Attention can also seem like power. When people are looking at you, listening to you and even emulating you, it can feel like you are powerful. It is not until something more compelling, more urgent, more important comes along that you discover attention is just a symbol of power.

Power is the ability to define one's reality and have others respond to that reality as if it were their own. Power requires a system by which people invest themselves, their identities, and their futures completely. It is expressed in the saying, "I am because we are.... POWERFUL!"
