This month, the National Park Service theme takes stock of "Opening Doors." There are many ways to interpret a doorway, gate, or other kind of entrance. What do the doors at Ocmulgee National Monument mean?
Our Visitor Center is the only art moderne building in the National Park Service. Begun in the 1930's, construction was put on hold during World War II as many of the Civilian Conservation Corps members became soldiers. Completed in the 1950's, it is a unique blend of architectures and aesthetics.
It is open daily and holds exhibits explaining thousands of years of history at the park. There are two thousand artifacts on display and an orientation film.
Stepping through the doors of the Visitor Center opens a world of possibilities! Even if you've been here before, you might learn something new!
