For this economic issue, when feminists talk about price differences whether it's from the "From cradle to cane: The cost of being a female consumer" study or just the simple rhetoric surrounding this issue one thing to keep in mind is the key word of "Similar". This word is crucial when analyzing this issue because it in a way debunks this pink tax narrative by means of saying that these similar male and female gendered products are not the exact same and that's why there is a so called "pink tax" on gendered women's items.
Simple economic factors section:
Women's body care products are more fanciful and higher end products. They have more complex ingredients and last longer for care. While men's products are overall less fanciful and more on the lower end of advanced care. Men's products are more basic in their ingredients and complexity since men don't care as much for aesthetic beauty looks and advanced cleanliness. Also, Women are more willing to spend money on products for body care like haircuts, shampoo, conditioner, razors, etc. This is because women overall care more about their physcial apperance more than men do.
Razor blade section:
Why would a razor designed for a female cost a bit more than a razor designed for men? Women tend to need a razor that is less sensitive to the skin since their leg hair is much lighter than mens legs when shaving that area. Women tend to shave mainly noticeable leg hair that are more sensitive areas to shaving especially considering the collegen density. Men and women have different skin. Womens skin is much softer, more sensitive to the enviroment, and also ages faster. Men's skin is tougher, thicker, and doesn't age as quickly as women's skin does. The collegen density of mens and womens skin are different. Mens collagen density are thicker for the outer layer of skin. While women's collegan density makes their skin softer (Dermal institute).
