Back to training after a couple weeks of recovery. Excited to be teaming up with @thestrengthhouse and really push myself to be stronger than ever. #oaperformancecenter #benchpress #powerlifting

Making progress. If you look back 4 posts ago, you can see the difference. Figure 8’s have worked wonders for him in helping understand tempo, loading , scapular involvement, gloveside and arm path. Still some work to do but I’m happy with the results so far. The best part, he’s pain free #pitching #rehab #oaperformancecenter #elitearms

Creating stiffness in the front leg is important in getting a downward plane in your pitches as well as enabling your breaking balls to do their thing. Here you can see the front knee never recovers from the moment the front foot lands. It never extends, getting the hips to drive back and allowing the trunk to flex, allowing the hand to get out in front. Fixing this can do wonders for your pitches. #frontleg #stiffness #pitching #oaperformancecenter

First powerlifting meet in the books. Great experience overall. A couple frustrating parts and a new deadlift PR. Thank you to my training partners and fellow competitors @fortknox52 and @steveo2387 and a thank you to @albino_rhino_275 for the meet day guidance. Already looking forward to the next one. #OAperformancecenter #RPS #powerlifting #singletsunday

Throw with intent. Understand what roles both the lower and upper half’s play in throwing a baseball hard. Run and Guns are great for that. It helps throwers understand how to create force, apply it and decelerate it. Notice how @nickthompson34 plants his front leg to decelerate his lower half to allow his upper half to take over and generate the arm speed needed to throw hard. #intent #throwhard #runandgun #oaperformancecenter

Spent some time with Kyle yesterday afternoon working on a couple of things:
1-He’s collapsing a little too much on his back leg during his drive to the plate. This in turn is causing his front foot to be a little too active, opening up early and causing his leg to swing open. By doing so, he strikes his heel vs finding the slope of the mound(since he’s trying to get back on his driveline). This makes it hard to decelerate his lower half and create stiffness in his front leg. So as you can see, he sinks into that front hip and really can’t recover from it
2- He has a little blocking issue with his gloveside. He’s pretty active with it at separation but then it becomes stagnant and he isn’t able to clear the shoulder to allow his throwing shoulder to get out in front. Since he is diligent about being in the weight room I knew it wasn’t a strength issue. He just needed to see what I’m looking at and to create some awareness. Filming your guys throwing can be an important coaching tool you can add to your toolbox #oaperformancecenter #elitearms #pitching #bringtheheat @kyleskolfield5

Many young throwers are unable to get into certain positions during the throwing motion due to physical constraints. One common one I see is when a player lacks external rotation. As you know, in order to accelerate the arm, you must present some sort of external rotation to get “layback”. Certain factors such as shoulder capsule external rotation, scapular movement quality, t-spine extension/ rotation and valgus carrying angle all contribute to this. When one or multiple links aren’t able to do this, in-efficient adaptations occur. In this case, the arm extends early as the hand rolls over under the ball. Consequently, this causes the arm to extend out to the side of the body putting a lot of valgus torque on the elbow/ medial epicondyle. #elbowhealth #arm101 #elitearms #oaperformancecenter

Been spending a lot of time with @will.palmer96 on creating a more efficient lower half. 2 areas of focus the last month has been the front leg- stiffness and stability and the back leg - toe drag and finish. Getting throwers to understand that the process takes time and doesn’t happen overnight is huge. At this age, it’s about finding your delivery, getting the high quality repetitions day in and day out. As you can see here, the patience and diligence is paying off. #elitearms #longtoss #pitching #jrelite #oaperformancecenter

Staying on a linear path, or driveline, is crucial for achieving efficiency and late launch. Working with @jtown09 on improving this by focusing on a couple of areas you see here in the video:
1- Take a look at his back foot. We want to create better stability and more of a vertical shin angle. Keeping the foot more flat, pushing away from the toes and loading through the instep will help with this.
2- Because he’s loaded on the toes a little too much, you notice that it takes him off his linear path to the plate. He does a good job of keeping his front foot quiet and finding the slope of the mound. But since he is off his driveline, he corrects his direction by over tilting his head to get his eyes back on track. By doing so, he pulls his head away from his arm and creates quite a large gap. This will change the timing of release and may cause him to miss arm side and up. Creating a more level head position and closing the gap between his head and PS arm would be better for him to keep the ball down and have better location with his gloveside fastball. #elitearms #pitching #location #atpitching #oaperformancecenter

Single arm fat handle sled rows are a great variation you can add to your anti-rotation tool box. The fat handle adds a different dimension of grip strength. There’s a big correlation between grip strength and shoulder health. #rowsfordays #gripandrip #oaperformancecenter

Hell yeah its Bench Press Monday!!! 285 here and finished off with 295lb. The rebuilding continues! #oaperformancecenter #parisispeedschool #spectrumhealthcare

There are many ways to progress to more challenging variation of the core (paloff) press. One would be to add a lateral movement with arms extended. Controlling the core and resisting rotation through the movement. #oaperformancecenter #strength #stability #coretrainning #superior #athlete
