Just voted the New Zealand bird of the year today - our native wood pigeon. About 2 minutes after hearing that I went out the back door and there was one guzzling the berries on the tree. Look at the size of the berry in his beak ... he proceeded to swallow it whole and then crap. They are greedy sods and like little barrels with wings. Altho they do fly they were almost hunted to extinction in years gone by due to the fact they were large slow targets. I have named him Clyde ... I think he looks like a Clyde. One of my cats was very intrigued with him as well ... in a fight my money would be on Clyde br#nzbirdoftheyear2018#nzwoodpigeon#mynewfriendclyde#kereru

I will miss this view 🌄 kererū in the afternoon light
As I was singing Happy Birthday to my Dad, I spied 2 plump Kereru perched on the lines outside...of course I grabbed my camera & got snapping. At his funeral a Huge wood pigeon flew down over everybody's head & ever since then I have believed the Kereru to be a very special Kaitiaki. #kereru#nzwoodpigeon#nzbird#katiaki#shayronphotography
Our NZ Nikau the worlds most Southern growing palm species much favoured for it’s bright red fruits by the kereru or nz wood pigeon. @mksmedia00 This good looking palm would look great in any garden setting.
In case you missed it, there's FREE SHIPPING on ALL orders within NZ until midnight tomorrow! No minimum spend or code required 😉🎉
An early dinner guest.... these guys often turn up for a late afternoon feed of tender new leaves from the trees. Often they will return to a favourite tree day after day. #kereru#nzwoodpigeon#southlandnz
