Our lovely Carma was out and about this past weekend. She stopped in to City News for the Rent Party source. It may have been chilly outside, but these guys warmed everyone up! #throwbackthursday#outandabout
We had the great pleasure of meeting this NW Side photographer this week. @art_amol has a genuine love of Blues Music and a true love for the musicians that make it. You can see some of his work hanging at City News Cafe. Hop on over to his profile, take a look at his work, and say hey!
#tbt to warmer days and this fun event! This year we held our first annual Day of the Dead celebration. 6 days. So many amazing people work to put this together. This storyteller was one of my favorites, yet. Interactive, engaging, comical... even helped them shake their wiggles out. The kids loved him! We meet some of the best people through these community art events 🙌 🙌
Thank you, Jesse! Allstate Insurance Agent Jesus Ortega is serving me my mango paleta. At the Avondale Restaurant Crawl the agency had a paleteria cart from Paleteria Arco Iris right in the office and served paletas (Mexican popsicles) out of it. The agency was also a Crawl sponsor, so thanks are due them twice.
You can find Jesse and other members of the Ortega family at 3238 N Elston Ave, Chicago.
If you feel the urge for a paleta and don't hear cart bells, you can go to Paleteria Arco Iris's storefront at 2950 W. Belmont Ave.
We want to give a big shout-out to @rescitychurch and its volunteers! Their bright yellow-green t-shirts were everywhere at the Avondale Restaurant Crawl, handing out free ice water, putting up balloons, helping visitors at trolley stops, and so on and so on. We also want to thank Airgas for their help with the balloons! They are located at 3223 N Elston Ave.
Avondale Restaurant Crawl guests love Restaurant Traspasada, at 3144 N California Ave (near intersection of Elston, Belmont and California). Crawlers always talk about how good the food is and how friendly the servers are. This year they are serving delicious chicken red tamale tastings. Make sure you stop by.

"Iris" means "rainbow" in Spanish. Paleteria Arco Iris will be serving a rainbow of paletas--ice-pop treats--at the Avondale Restaurant Crawl tonight.
They will be bringing a paletero cart right into the office of Allstate Insurance: Jesus Ortega at 3238 N Elston Ave. Drop by and choose your ice-pop flavor. While you're there you can chat with the friendly Ortega family.
Sometime after the Crawl, when you're in the mood for ice-pops and you don't hear cart bells ringing, you can stop by Paleteria Arco Iris's store at 2950 W Belmont Ave.
When I walked into City News Cafe I was just going to drop off postcards for the Avondale Restaurant Crawl. But I stayed to enjoy the soulful jazz of Hassan El-Tayyab, vocalist and guitarist.
We were able to grab @hassanmusic27 to perform tonight at the Crawl! He has the 8-9pm slot at the Burger King stage, 2828 W Belmont Ave (at Elston Ave). Come see him for yourself while you enjoy the free ice cream cone from Burger King.
Listening to their music makes me happy. My favorite feminist garage folk band, Rent Party, will be entertaining Avondale Restaurant Crawl guests at Chief O’Neill’s 6:00-7:15pm. 3471 N Elston Ave. The forecast says the weather will be beautiful, so look for them in the garden.
They describe their evolution. "Phase 1: Two Chicago feminist singer/songwriters who play garage folk, although one half of the band can't drive, and 0 halves of the band have a garage. Phase 2: the duo becomes a 4-piece, electrifies, and finally gains a garage and even a practice basement." I expect we will see Nana, Heather, Matt, and Holly at the Crawl.
Crawlers can dance. @gingerdances and dancers will be entertaining Avondale Restaurant Crawl guests at Brands Park check-in, 3259 N Elston Ave, doing improv and interacting with passers-by.
Around 6pm they will begin to dance south on Elston Ave to Burger King on Elston and Belmont. 6:15 at Burger King marks the premiere of "dandelions," an "exploration of the expedition to find self through places, people, escape and community." At 6:45 they will do improv on their way back north to Brands Park. At the corner of Elston and Henderson they will dance "dandelions" without music. After all that work they will be ready to hit the restaurants for their tastes.
During the Avondale Restaurant Crawl Mirabella Italian Cuisine & Bar will be serving Chef Arturo's sausage and peppers at Peterson Picture Co., 2720 W Belmont Ave. Arturo Aucaquizhpi, a native of Ecuador, was formerly a chef at Gene & Georgetti's.
We are delighted to welcome @mirabellaitaliancuisine to the Crawl. Their restaurant location at 3454 W Addison St is outside the Crawl corridor, so @petersonpictureframe graciously agreed to host them. Mirabella offers classic Italian fare and a full bar in a white-tablecloth setting.
Avondale Restaurant Crawl doesn't want to make you wait for dessert. La Farine Bakery & Cafe is bringing a dessert sampler to you at Brands Park check-in, 3259 N Elston Ave. Raspberry bars, chocolate cookies, and butter cookies.
@lafarinechicago is a "quaint neighborhood bakery and cafe." Sometime after the Crawl, check them out at 2909 N Milwaukee Ave.
Thank you, Airgas, for sponsoring the Avondale Restaurant Crawl!
Products / services at the 3223 N Elston Ave, Chicago location include welding repair, welder rental, propane, construction, specialty gases, beverage gas, fire protection, breathing air. How does Airgas relate to the Crawl? One word: balloons!

10-15 @upbeatmachicago students will be playing at the Burger King stage, 2828 W Belmont Ave from 7 to 7:45 pm during the Avondale Restaurant Crawl. They will be entertaining Crawlers with music by some of the most iconic artists of popular music.
Aged junior high through high school, they will be doing vocals and playing guitar, bass, keys, and drums.
