Since getting to Palm Springs, I’ve been in a swimsuit every day. Every. Damn. Day. And, let me tell you, it’s confronting. Wearing a bikini has forced me to get honest with myself about choices I’ve made in the last few months. As a barre studio owner, I was at my studio almost every day. However, the last barre class I took was on April 2nd. March 2nd before that. I still taught cardio classes, so I wasn't just sitting around, but my workouts were inconsistent. I also ate most meals in restaurants, boozed it up and didn’t sleep much.
I’m sharing this because I want you all to know that everyone gets off track, and it’s okay. Now, I am doing exactly what I tell all of my clients — starting today, make better choices and make them consistently. If I were in Santa Cruz, I’d do the #take15challenge alongside my friends and clients at @thebarrecapitola to get me back in the exercise habit. Since I’m not there and not a member at a studio or gym right now, I’m doing at-home workouts using the @toneitup Bikini Series as a framework to keep me accountable. (The pic is yesterday's boat pose with chest press.) And, when I eat in restaurants or order takeout, I'm committing to choosing healthier options when available. So, tonight it's grilled fish tacos instead of Baja-style for #tacotuesday.
As we come into summer — bikini, shorts and tank top season — I encourage you not to get sucked into crash diets, crazy fitness routines or chasing after a number on a scale. Just pick one or two things you can do to be kinder to your body and healthier overall. Try your best to do that consistently, and I promise you’ll feel stronger, healthier and more confident. And, don’t worry if you get off track. Every day is a chance to start fresh. What small change can you make today?
