So much wrong with this picture:

1. Nutritional value in this drink comes from simple carbs only/sugar (no good fats, no protein, no complex carbs, no fiber, no nutrients).
2. The ingredients - go ahead and research them on Google.
3. Most importantly, High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS). Read the labels because anything can contain it these days (breads, yogurt, anything processed).

This is what happens when you consume HFCS. Your liver is the only organ in your body that can process fructose to be converted into liver glycogen. Your liver can hold approximately 50 g of carbs (in any form) (this also varies from person to person). If you supersaturate your liver, the extra sugars will not be converted into glycogen and instead will be converted into triglycerrides which are then released into the bloodstream and taken up by 'fat cells' for 'long term storage'. Basic message here, consumption of HFCS leads to quick fat gain. Of course, this can also happen with over-consumption of carbs altogether, but that’s a topic for a later day.

Other notable items which contain fructose are sucrose (dissacharide composed of fructose and glucose or table sugar) and fructose (aka fruits).

Table sugar is found is sweets and is thus, the reason why it is suggested to limit the intake of these as they will fill the liver stores/reserves quickly. Same with fruits; however, fruits contain fiber and micronutrients which for one, slow down digestion and for two, are good for gut health, and for three, contain a bunch of vitamins for wellness overall. Fruits are good in moderation and should be manipulated a little to be consumed pre and/or post workout.

The basic message here is: limit sugar intake (especially from candy and sweets), have fruits in moderation, and cut out HFCS altogether. Limit empty calories like sodas and juices with extremely poor nutritional value. Always look at the labels. Always eat 'real food' instead like lean proteins, unsatturated fats high in omega-3s, veggies, complex carbs with fiber. #mountaindew #highfructosecornsyrup #fructose #hfcs #sucrose #simplecarbs #nutritionlabel #ingredients #zeronutritionalvalue #eatclean #nutrition

Did you know there are more than 10,000 nutrients in an apple! These thousands of nutrients rely on each other in order to work most effectively in our bodies.
Compare that to 100 or less synthetically isolated ‘nutrients’ in a multivitamin. Numerous studies have proven that nutrients outside of their food source are not able to work effectively in the body. In fact, they can have a negative impact over time. That’s why Harvard University canceled their multivitamin study. Half the participants were taking a multivitamin and the other half were taking a placebo. The group taking the multivitamin was experiencing significantly worse health. Harvard sent a letter to the multivitamin participants saying, ‘We suggest you no longer take a multivitamin.’ ___
That's why taking Juice Plus concentrated fruits and vegetables has had such a profoundly positive effect on improving the symptoms of chronic illness my daughter and I have to contend with. It is also why I feel compelled to share those health benefits with others. It’s not just better to get our nutrition from whole food, it’s the only effective way. 🍎🍊🥑🍇🍒🍍🥦 ___

Did you know that 4 grams is the equivalent of 1 teaspoon? This is valuable information in regards to your nutrition. Knowing this can help you quickly do the math when you are staring at a nutrition label wondering how much of something is going into your body. Take a can of Mountain Dew for example. One can has 46 grams of sugar. I simply divide that number by 4 and get 11.5. There are 12 teaspoons in 1/4 of a cup. This tells me that by drinking one can I will be putting just under 1/4 cup of sugar into my body. Swipe to see what this looks like.

Teaching 📝 ✒ time.... If you're having trouble figuring out what's a "Healthy snack" that you can eat that's also a "Whole Food", then just remember this shortcut definition: Whole foods are foods that are unprocessed or minimumally processed to keep it as close as possible to it's natural form. Usually these foods will have only 1 ingredient and no more than 2 or 3(it may contain a small amount of salt or sugar). For instance, these Raisins are just grapes 🍇 🍇 that's been dried by sun ☀ light. They have only one ingredient and that is Grapes. This is a healthy whole food snack. Other examples are 🍓, 🍌, Oatmeal, Walnuts, Almonds, Pistachios, Pecans, Cantaloupes, Cucumbers, 🍉, Natural Peanut Butter, 🍍, 🍊, 🍒, 🍎, 🍑, sweet 🍠 and other fruits, veggies, nuts and whole grains. For those who are Vegans, these are also great Vegan snack options, so snack away ppl but make sure you choose Whole Foods. 😎👍👍 #nutrition #healthyeating #healthysnacks #healthyfood #nutritionfacts #nutritiontip #wholefoods #wholefoodnutrition #nutritioncoaching #nutritionadvice #snacktime #healthcoach #healthyhabits #healthytips #nodiet #diet #readlabels #nutritionlabel #vegan #veganfood #vegansnack #vegancommunity

🔥A question asked a lot by people who are currently - or wanting to start - working out to lose weight is, “what is the most effective exercise to help me burn the fat from my [insert body part here]?”

🙅🏼‍♂️Unfortunately, the answer is always the same: when you hold excess fat in certain areas, it is because you are naturally designed to do so.

💊There is no magic spot reduction pill or amount of stimulus to the muscle(s) that will help you lose the fat stores from a certain area - and nor will your Flat Tummy Teas!

🤷🏻‍♂️ So what can you control?

💪🏻To get rid of fat, from anywhere on your body, the same rule applies as per usual - be in a caloric deficit. Consuming fewer calories than your body works through consistently is the only answer.

⏳Then, with time and patience, when your body decides that you're going to lose that stomach/leg/arm/love handle fat, you'll lose it - and we don’t get much more of a say in the matter.

📮So get in touch if you need any help with putting together more of a structured training or nutrition programme? Or if you have any questions relating to your current goals?

This was all of the sugar (and other spices) from this quaker oatmeal bowl. Holy crap! That is so much sugar for a small amount of oatmeal! Prepared as is, there are 17g of sugar and it is listed as the second most abundant ingredient. Yikes!

I have been trying really hard to minimize sugar in my diet so I usually do not buy pre-packaged food like this. Read your nutrition labels!

We live in a constantly evolving world and today more than ever customers are combing through labels and scrutinizing the foods they are consuming.  Companies are now listening with ears wide open to what the concerns are.  In the food industry over the past few years there has been two driving forces behind changes in the industry, one is the consumers movement for “clean labels” and the other is the over 20 years in the making labeling reform.  Both changes underline the same key concept, transparency... 🔎Read more at nutritionlabelreview.com 🔍

Fun fiber facts: Did you know that dietary fiber guidelines will be changing very soon? I found a great article on Today’s Dietitian that discussed that foods with fiber will be monitored for having the naturally occurring fiber or "intrinsic" fiber, which is considered "intact" because it hasn't been removed from the food. For example: the fiber naturally in foods like vegetables, whole grains, fruits, cereal bran, and flours.
The added fibers in food will only be able to be noted as dietary if they fall under a “beneficial physiological effect to human health" criterion.
So far the following non-digestible carbohydrates meet this new dietary fiber definition: beta-glucan soluble fiber, psyllium husk, cellulose, guar gum, pectin, locust bean gum, and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.
The compliance date is July 26, 2018. However, the food industry has asked the FDA for a three-year delay to the compliance date for the new food labels. -
I loved reading this article and was very interested in this topic about whether some of the added fibers in our foods provide the same nutritional benefit that we find in whole plant sources!
Here’s the link to the article if anyone is interested in the read:http://www.todaysdietitian.com/newarchives/0817p30.shtml

Today we celebrated the first production run of Yarie's Auntys Ginger Tonic with Tamarind. Up early and at the factory to taste and approve the first bottles produced and seeing her new food labels in print. It was also a fulfillment of my New Year resolution and social commitment to building a better society, mentoring refugees who have a food product that they are passionate about and assisting them to bring it to the Australian marketplace. @auntys_ginger_tonic #foodbusinessstartup #refugeeweek2018
