Does drinking coffee.. even a little bit.. lessen the effects of a good detox? I get asked that question a lot ๐Ÿ˜Š The short answer is YES. Coffee (as much as I love it) is an addictive substance that must be processed by the liver. One of the reasons for doing a protocol like the 3-week detox @thecleverkitchen (starts today!) is that by avoiding substances that tax the liver you allow your body the chance to function optimally. Coffee, along with alcohol, smoking and certain medications, speeds up phase 1 of the detoxification process, which can have a negative effect on phase 2.. which is unable to keep up with increased demand. I hope you are all having a lovely holiday weekend! We certainly are. It's really felt like Summer here this weekend. The weather is finally warm & Max and I spent the day at the beach swimming in the sea and soaking up a little too much sun. It isn't a holiday weekend without a holiday dessert to accompany it so I made a simple, yet deliciously fresh strawberry cream tart this Memorial Day weekend. It turned out amazing- I know it will be on our meal plan rotation these next few months. The crust edges will get crunchy and sweet, while the inside stays nice and chewy. Whip up some fluffy, creamy coconut, top with fresh strawberries and voila- a healthy & light sweet treat to serve at your holiday party ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Coconut Blue Butterfly Gelato
Donโ€™t eat it because itโ€™s healthy. Eat it because it taste so good! #gelatoallsommah @crucialfour โ€˜s โ€œBlue butterfly pea vine is noted for its bright blue edible flowers. Aside from its many culinary uses, the blue butterfly pea vine has been used in Ayurveda as well as traditional Asian and Middle Eastern medicine and its health benefits are increasingly supported by modern science.โ€ Tasteful Technique: donโ€™t hide the flavor of coconut. Pair it with flavors that compliment it.

When using coconut milk as a based for your frozen desserts adjust the fat content by omitting the coconut cream can for 2 cans of coconut milk.
This is the general rule for Gelato - less fat content compared to Ice Creams.

1 13.5-ounce can coconut milk
1 14-ounce can coconut cream (optional or two cans coconut milk)

In a medium saucepan combine coconut milk (gelato texture) and 3/4 cups coconut sugar (adjust sweetness to taste) and cook over medium heat whisking to combine the ingredients until mixture comes to a simmer. This is an important step for better outcome in gelato texture.
Transfer mixture to blender and blend for 30 seconds with your favorite flavors like #crucialfourโ€™s #bluebutterly freeze dried herbs, blueberries, coriander spice, lime and lime zest, and pinch of sea salt. (Pictured)

Cover mixture and chill in refrigerator until it is very cold then churn in ice cream maker. Transfer to an airtight container and chill in freezer until ice cream is ready to serve.
