Did you know you can choose to be happy even by what you eat? I find it pretty cool🙌. For example foods like turkey🦃, salmon, eggs🥚, nuts🥜, are rich in tryptophan, the chemical compound from which serotonin, (the “happiness hormone”) is built. Serotonin is a brain neurotransmitter that is said to help produce healthy sleeping patterns 😴 as well as boost your mood😃. It also helps with the regulation of your appetite🍽, your body temperature🤒, the tone of your blood vessels, your perception of pain, the health of the mucus membranes of your stomach and intestines. Another way of boosting serotonin levels is by consuming carbohydrates, but you need to be careful here and choose the right ones. If you go for heavily processed and refined carbohydrates like white flour, white sugar, artificial sweeteners and the like🥐🍩, you're going to have a nice spike of energy almost immediately followed by a crash when insulin starts to clear sugar from your blood. These sugar lows are often accompanied by drowsiness, headaches and irritability. Choosing fiber rich carbohydrates insted, such as sweet potatoes, apples, blueberries, carrots, and garbanzo beans, is a healthier way to boost serotonin.🥕🥔🍏🍎🍠 One last thing to note is that about 95% of the serotonin in your body is produced in your gut, so consuming good quality probiotics is important to support gut bacteria in the process, I go for kefir milk🥛, it's very similar to liquid yogurt, rich in healthy probiotics. Vitamins B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin) and B6 (pyridoxine) as well as vitamin D, folate and selenium plus calcium, and magnesium are needed to make serotonin.
