This Cour Cheverny - made from the Romorantin grape, allegedly exclusive to the Cheverny corner of France - might be my new favourite white wine. This 2010 smells like a delicate white port. The flavour is savoury, dry, and the taste reminds me of raisins, maybe a little rum, but with all the buttery, oaky goodness you want from an old white. The nose is light, and the flavour subtle in it’s initial presentation, but leaves you with a gorgeous, limey aftertaste glowing with something I’m struggling to describe as anything but “this is just like Christmas”
Look, if you ever get the chance, get on it. It’s outstanding, it’s unique, it tastes like no other white I’ve had (in my former, miserably sheltered career flogging Australian wine) and if you’re actually reading this far into the image description you owe it to yourself. Treat your tongue.
