So a few weeks back I posted a photo of a picture frame with a story mounted in it. The story is about the barn doors and some history of the material itself. It was just a small part of a project that I just installed yesterday. For the restaurant, I built a unique wine rack, a definite one of a kind. I made it from wood that was in the 1850's barn that I am currently dismantling. It is approximately 230 years old. For the wine rack I used reclaimed white oak that I fumed and applied Rubio 2-c pure on. I put a fair amount of features into this such as barn doors that replicate the big ones. Wine barrels that can move by gears, one is a tractor gear with two wooden ones that I handcrafted. Behind the doors is a place for wine glasses. The two side panels have wood onlays, one of which is the restaurant logo which is attached to the plexiglass so that you can see the wine corks. The wine corks can be added thru holes covered by the barrels. Individual shingles were made from shims (420) to give the roof a nice look. This was finished with an aging stain called weather wash. The timber truss is handcrafted with pegs. The tractor gear has a wine cork for a handle. The wall of wood behind it is reclaimed Douglas Fir. I am ever so grateful for having such a great client to work with and let me have creative license. I made his day which in turn made mine. I have said a mouthful. Thanks to @Jbowerengraving for her fantastic work on the story and to all those that have appreciated the work that I do. I live to create ! #The Timberdude#barns#winerack#funky#reclaimedwood#restaurant#carpentry#woodworking#oneofakind#winebarrels#gears#@rubiomonocoatusa

A vanity built out of reclaimed red oak from the 1850's barn. It was made for the owner of farm. The vanity has been installed and a tile countertop has been completed. This photo shows it in my kitchen in front of the valance that I installed at the restaurant a few months back. Enclosed is a little tease for an upcoming project that is about to be installed for the restaurant where my barn doors are. The beautiful penmanship was done by an amazing talent named @Jbowerengraving. Her work will be telling the story of the barn doors above my latest creation. The frame is made from American chestnut and Brazilian cherry. It was fumed and finished with rubio. I am very lucky to have gotten to work with such a great client, he understands creativity and let's those that create for him to use their own passion and drive to make the best possible creation that they can . It is such a great thing when you get to have creative license, because the possibilities become endless. Stay tuned or at the very least on the edge of your seat !#reclaimed#barnwood#pictureframe#handcrafted#woodworking#carpenter#restaurant#unique#oneofkind#The Timberdude#NorthernMarylandTimberworks,Inc#ForestHill,#Maryland#northernmarylandtimberworks.com

A mantle that I made from 230 year old reclaimed white oak for my buddy Bill's client. It has a natural oil stain with a satin urethane finish. I made trim pieces from the same barn lumber that the mantle wood came from. So as Kosmo Kramer would say installed !!#barns#reclaimedmantle#whiteoak#carpenter#woodworking#timber#sawdust#hardworkpaysoff#The Timberdude#Northern Maryland Timberworks, Inc.#Forest Hill, Maryland#northernmarylandtimberworks.com

So today my friend Bill and I hung the valance pieces over my barn doors. Then installed a wall of wood to a metal wine rack. The wood was 230 year old reclaimed oak and chestnut mixed. I fumed the wood and applied Rubio pure on the wood. The restaurant owner was very happy with the work. Part three is a unique wine rack that I am currently finishing up.#The Timberdude#Northern Maryland Timberworks, Inc.#Forest Hill, Maryland#barns#barndoors#carpenter#carpentry#reclaimed#hardworkpaysoff#helpfromafellowcarpenter#rubiomonocoatusa#fumingiscool#chestnut#oak#northernmarylandtimberworks.com

This last year's photo of the fireworks display held on my National holiday. This year's celebration already has a plethora of activity lined up so it might be awhile for any additional photos.#The Timberdude#Northern Maryland Timberworks,Inc#celebration#birthday#Iamanoldguynow#fireworks#parade#almostfamous#justkidding#margaritas#tacos#foresthill#maryland#northernmarylandtimberworks.com

So today my national holiday has started out with a parade in my honor. If by chance you missed it the highlight will be on the National news. There will be a fireworks display after it gets dark and the festivities will go on thru the entire weekend !#TheTimberdude#nationalholidaycelebration#parttimecomedian#parade#fireworks#birthday#justchillin#margaritas#tacos#dayoff#foresthill#maryland#northernmarylandtimberworks.com

So today myself and my homie , and yes stubborn Irishmen can have a homie. We installed 2 1/4 red oak select and it went in like a dream. It felt good to drop one in. It had been since before I was injured that I had run some wood. As they say it was mint!#woodfloor#flooring#floormechanic#sawdust#construction#workingwithmyhomie#TheTimberdude#NorthernMarylandTimberworks,Inc.#ForestHill,Maryland#www.northernmarylandtimberworks.com

So I got asked to build another pedestal for my taxidermist friend. He sent a photo of this funky wine rack pedestal. I recreated the pedestal and was able to make it almost exact. I added my touch of uniqueness to it of course. The wood is some of the 230 year old reclaimed red oak from the 1850's barn. It has been fumed and coated with rubio 2c pure oil. Yesterday was a great day ! I received an important package in the mail from an incredibly talented artist @jbowerengraving . She took the story that I had written about my barn door project and made into this beautiful piece of art work which will be part of the second phase of my work in the restaurant. Some unique features are in the works as I write this post. So awhile back we took my mother out to nice restaurant for her 82nd birthday. So I started a conversation with a guy that works there and he ended up being the owner. We started talking about woodworking and boom he asked if I ever had built any barn doors. So out came the phone and a month later a chance to build some for his restaurant. This is a high end place so I made them out of 230 year old reclaimed chestnut. This project brings me one step closer to the full scale shop and taking my creative dream to the highest level. More work is already in the works and I cannot wait.#barndoors#reclaimedtimber#chestnut#timberframing#woosdshop#woodworking#carpentry#sawdust#hardworkisagreatthing#TheTimberdude#NorthernMarylandTimberworksInc#ForestHillMaryland#northernmarylandtimberworks.com

A mirror made out of 230 year old reclaimed red oak from my 1850's barn. Made this for the bathroom that I remodeled. It was fumed with Rubio and sealed with 2-c oil pure. It will set off the room once the cabinetry and trim are complete.#reclaimed timber#barns#furniture#rubiomonocoatusa#doing what is right#carpentry#mirror#creative#The Timberdude#Northern Maryland Timberworks, Inc.#Forest Hill, Maryland#northernmarylandtimberworks.com

A river runs thru ! Rain, Rain and more Rain fall today in downtown Forest Hill. Keeping a watchful eye out for dorsal fins in the yard. So Monday was a bit of an unusual day. One of those days that most would just assume not happen. As you can see gravity got the better of this tree in my mother's front yard. A storm blew thru and the rest is history. Fortunately the luck of the Irish was with us and nothing was hit by the tree. Tomorrow will have a plethora of activity. So last night my nephew and I went to the Royal Farms Arena and saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in a 40th anniversary concert. It was one of the best shows that I have seen over the years. They were absolutely amazing.#rockin out#guitar#amazing tunes#learning to fly#american girl#Tom Petty#The Timberdude#Forest Hill,Maryland#northernmarylandtimberworks.com

So I am remodeling a bathroom for the guy that gave me the 1850's barn. In my eyes you need to make the circle and do right by those that do right by you. He will be getting a brand new bathroom and some additional work in the rest of his house and I get the barn#make the circle#bathroom remodel#tile work#wet saw#doing what is right not what is easy#carpentry#construction#barns#farms#timber#The Timberdude#Northern Maryland Timberworks, Inc.#Forest Hill, Maryland#northernmarylandtimberworks.com

A custom floor that I installed approximately 13 years ago. The octagon was plumbed down from the tray effect ceiling that was also an octagon. The unique boarder material went well with the 2 1/4 red oak select. Design features were created in each space that received flooring.#flooring#creative#floor mechanic#unique design#hard wood#attention to detail#woodworking#carpentry#The Timberdude#Northern Maryland Timberworks, Inc.#Forest Hill, Maryland#northernmarylandtimberworks.com
