As I was cleaning out my 1850's barn I stumbled upon some antique saw blades buried under a pile of old tires among other things. This is going to be a long process, but a very interesting one. There is all kind of cool in this barn and every bit of it has a story. So I got asked to build another pedestal for my taxidermist friend. He sent a photo of this funky wine rack pedestal. I recreated the pedestal and was able to make it almost exact. I added my touch of uniqueness to it of course. The wood is some of the 230 year old reclaimed red oak from the 1850's barn. It has been fumed and coated with rubio 2c pure oil. Stay tuned !#reclaimed#barnwood#timber#timberframe#barns#funky# carpentry#woodworking#woodshop#fuming#taxidermy#pedestals#TheTimberdude#NorthernMarylandTimberworks,Inc.#ForestHill,Maryland#northernmarylandtimberworks.com

Yesterday was a great day ! I received an important package in the mail from an incredibly talented artist @jbowerengraving . She took the story that I had written about my barn door project and made into this beautiful piece of art work which will be part of the second phase of my work in the restaurant. Some unique features are in the works as I write this post. Stay tuned !#artist#workwithyourhands#creativity#calligraphy#calligrapher#barns#barndoors#carpentry#unique#timberframing#reclaimed#chestnut#TheTimberdude#NorthernMarylandTimberworks,Inc.#ForestHill, Maryland#northernmarylandtimberworks.com

So awhile back we took my mother out to nice restaurant for her 82nd birthday. So I started a conversation with a guy that works there and he ended up being the owner. We started talking about woodworking and boom he asked if I ever had built any barn doors. So out came the phone and a month later a chance to build some for his restaurant. This is a high end place so I made them out of 230 year old reclaimed chestnut. This project brings me one step closer to the full scale shop and taking my creative dream to the highest level. More work is already in the works and I cannot wait.#barndoors#reclaimedtimber#chestnut#timberframing#woosdshop#woodworking#carpentry#sawdust#hardworkisagreatthing#TheTimberdude#NorthernMarylandTimberworksInc#ForestHillMaryland#northernmarylandtimberworks.com

A mirror made out of 230 year old reclaimed red oak from my 1850's barn. Made this for the bathroom that I remodeled. It was fumed with Rubio and sealed with 2-c oil pure. So Monday was a bit of an unusual day. One of those days that most would just assume not happen. As you can see gravity got the better of this tree in my mother's front yard. A storm blew thru and the rest is history. Fortunately the luck of the Irish was with us and nothing was hit by the tree. Tomorrow will have a plethora of activity. So I am remodeling a bathroom for the guy that gave me the 1850's barn. In my eyes you need to make the circle and do right by those that do right by you. So in a few posts I have mentioned taking Timber Frame school with Bensonwood homes. Tedd and his crew left such an amazing impression on me that I changed the way I view the creative world. During my class one of my instructors was a fellow named Jim. An amazing talent in his own right. Jim and I not only connected thru the construction world but also the fire service as well. In the photo the skinny dude now known as the Timberdude is helping Jim put a frame up. A unique table that I just completed about two days ago. It is made from 260 year old chestnut and has a Brazilian cherry banding. The chestnut was from a barn that had been dismantled 20 years ago. So back about 14 years ago while I was working my career (firefighter) I had an all girl crew. These were ladies that worked in the job but also wanted to learn the construction world. So I started teaching them flooring and over time I was able to have them doing additions, decks, pretty much all of it. They gave themselves a name and called themselves Mac's Angels. I was called Mac due to my last name. They worked with me for about 4 years. In the photo are Deb and Denise. Approximately 20 years ago I took timber frame school and just after I completed Tedd Benson's class. An amazing week long class that changed my life. A barn near my house was being dismantled from the early 1800's. I was fortunate enough to be given some material that was not going to be taken. I built a crib out of reclaimed red oak. It was built for a friend that was having their first child. They live in California and I in Maryland. This was the beginning of my working with reclaimed materials and great fascination for the timber frame world. As of three days ago I started my 30th year in business. In my eyes I am scratching the surface and hope to spend the rest of my life creating unique well done work. The crib lumber is approximately 260 years old and it swings on a pendulum.
