North Broad Street, despite the transit artery directly below, once teemed with so many car factories and showrooms it was known as Automobile Row. That included showrooms for parts and tires too, like this mini Rubber Row on the 800 block. The four contiguous 1920s buildings, next to the former Studebaker factory (red wall visible far left), all feature terra cotta façades and reliefs on two of them advertise the tires sold therein: Michelin and Republic. #automobilerow #northbroadstreet #terracotta #michelintires

Tomorrow Night for the Evolution of Jazz #PhillyWineWeek Edition

Join Chelsea Reed & The Fair Weather Five
2 Shows | 7:00pm & 9:00pm

Grab your tickets here:http://bit.ly/SOUTHTickets

In October 2012, vocalist Chelsea Reed brought five of her friends together to play some tunes in a South Philly dining room. Her plan was to form a band that played for swing dancers, so she could finally have the chance to sing her favorite songs for an audience that loved early jazz as much as she did.
Now, Chelsea Reed and the Fair Weather Five are at home at swing dances, jazz clubs and concert halls alike.

Chelsea Reed and the Fair Weather Five honor the heritage of jazz with fresh arrangements and original songs. They are silly, passionate people who love playing this music.

Tonight!
Unscripted Thursdays at SOUTH with Gerald Veasley!

Nelson Rangell w/ the Gerald Veasley Band

Thursday, April 20, 2017
Show times 7pm and 9pm

Jazziz magazine writes that Nelson Rangell is “an artist of depth, a master of song, and an improviser non pareil.” The Times of London notes “his extraordinary facility on a range of instruments” and Rangell’s “considerable crowd pleasing power”. Such praise is a confirmation of what contemporary jazz fans have known since the Denver based saxophonist emerged in the late 80s: that Rangell is one of the most exciting and diverse performers in the genre, equally adept at soprano, alto, and tenor saxophone, as well as being a genuine virtuoso on flute and piccolo.

{Featured Beer at SOUTH:
Cherry Blossom Lager}

In what has become known as the Craft Beer Revolution, the year 1989 stands out as a landmark moment when the Old Dominion Brewing Co. established a brewpub operation in Ashburn, Virginia. The small brewpub quickly became a production brewery that was named one of the Top 50 breweries in the U.S.
As a local and Southern brewery, we proudly serve Dominion's seasonally changing brews also at SOUTH. Their Spring Seasonal, the Cherry Blossom Lager is conditioned on red sour cherry pureé and dark sweet cherry pureé for 48 hours.

Delightfully effervescent, blushing, and tart and resembles a cherry champagne, it is a must try @ SOUTH! You should have it with our new special, Pickled Shrimp & Cabbage or Wood Grilled Vegetables

This is the perfect day to enjoy cheese and WINE at SOUTH!

We are featuring St. Francis Chardonnay this week... We open today at 4pm!

While jazz is his first love, it is the genre he invented—rockjazz—that has made ELEW a recognizable name to fans, celebrities and brands around the world.
ELEW began his career as Eric Lewis, a straight-ahead jazz virtuoso and sideman to the legendary Wynton Marsalis. While he’s since branched out to rock reinterpretations, DJing and everything between, he’s still a dyed-in-the-wool jazzman at heart.
