#AmericanMagpie, is a bird in the crow family that inhabits the western half of North America, from Colorado, to southern coastal Alaska to northern California, northern Nevada, northern Arizona, northern New Mexico, central Kansas, and Nebraska. It is black and white, with black areas on the wings and tail showing iridescent hints of blue or blue-green. It is one of only four North American songbirds whose tail makes up half or more of the total body length (the others being the yellow-billed magpie, the scissor-tailed flycatcher, and the fork-tailed flycatcher).
This species prefers generally open habitats with clumps of trees. It can therefore be found in farmlands and suburban areas, where it comes into regular contact with people. Where persecuted it becomes very wary, but otherwise it is fairly tolerant of human presence. Historically associated with bison herds, it now lands on the back of cattle to clean ticks and insects from them. Large predators such as wolves are commonly followed by black-billed magpies, who scavenge from their kills. The species also walks on the ground, where it obtains such food items as beetles, grasshoppers, worms, and small rodents.

The ornate box turtle (Terrapene ornata ornata) is one of only two terrestrial species of turtles native to the Great Plains of the United States. It is one of the two different subspecies of Terrapene ornata. It is the state reptile of Kansas. It is a relatively small turtle, that is currently listed as threatened in Illinois but is of concern and protected in six Midwestern states ( #ColoradoAnimalsSeria , Iowa, Indiana, #NebraskaAnimalsSeria, Kansas, and Wisconsin). Males and females generally look alike but males are often smaller; there is color variation with yellow lines from the center of the shell to the edges through gray, red-brown, or black coloration.
Besides the size, males can be distinguished from females in several ways; a large curved inner claw on the back feet, a cloacal opening that is farther back in males, a longer and thicker tail, and reddish color on the legs and occasionally on the jaw.

My contribution to World Wildlife Day. These two fawns who were having a real hay day chasing each other around. Which was driving their moms crazy as there was many vehicles passing alongside them. We spotted them on our way out of Riding Mountain last summer and it was a sight for sore eyes as we had been looking for Bear Cubs and Moose but all was quiet in the park. deer #DeersLifeSeria #DeersSeria #RidingMountainNationalParkAnimalsSeria #RidingMountainNationalParkDeersSeria #CanadaAnimalsSeria #CanadaDeersSeria #NorthAmericaAnimalsSeria #NorthAmericaDeersSeria #CanadaNationalParksSeria #RidingMountainNationalParkSeria #NorthAmericaNationalParksSeria

The North American river otter (Lontra canadensis), also known as the northern river otter or the common otter, is a semiaquatic mammal endemic to the North American continent found in and along its waterways and coasts. An adult river otter can weigh between 5.0 and 14 kg (11.0 and 30.9 lb). The river otter is protected and insulated by a thick, water-repellent coat of fur.

One of nature’s most social and playful creatures, river otters have big personalities and even bigger appetites. Often seen in groups, they can be observed hunting and frolicking year round at LoessBluffs National WildlifeRefuge in Missouri. In winter, you might even catch otters sliding across the ice on their bellies. Fur and friendship keep them warm. Photo courtesy of Kenny Bahr. usinterior squadgoals
