Throwback to one of the hardest races I have ever put myself through. You know the kind of race where you’re hit with strong head on winds and a blizzard of hail? Oh wait, is that not normal? 🤔🤷🏼♂️
I remember being stood on the start line in the sunshine but you could see a very dark cloud coming over. We all nervously started the 3 lap 5K race at Aztec West and by lap 2 all hell broke loose. I was in the lead and was just hit by a wall of wind and hail. It was insane! 😭
For the remainder of the race I just tried to hold on to what was 4:45-50 pace. What surprised me though was just how long I managed to maintain speed. It hurt so much but I just kept going. It was like my body was feeling stronger than my mind. Normally it’s the other way around.
Anyway, long story short...I love these moments because I can store them into the memory bank. So I know that if I am ever suffering, whether that be in a race or in anything else in life, I can recall the memory and tell myself ‘I SURVIVED!’ and that this moment will be no different.
