Come to Hands Across the Sand event on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 12 noon on Austinmer Beach. Please join us to send a message to our leaders that deepsea drilling in the Great Australian Bight is too risky. While we are there, we will also do a quick beach clean!
BP has plans to begin deepsea exploration drilling in our Great Australian Bight. The Great Australian Bight is considered to be one of the most pristine marine environments on earth, a sanctuary recognised internationally for its amazing animals including southern right whales and their calves, blue and humpback whales and Australian sea lions.
Drilling for oil could devastate our marine and coastal environments, fishing and tourism industries and carries the potential for a catastrophic oil spill. We need to protect our environment, secure our marine sanctuaries, and invest in renewables for a better future.
This event is part of an international day of action, calling on the world to say NO to dirty fossil fuels and YES to clean energy! Learn more about the international movement at http://www.handsacrossthesand.com/
People will join hands for 15 minutes on beaches all over the world to champion clean energy solutions to our filthy fuels problem that affect our oceans. This is not a protest but a gathering. #handsacrossthesand #boobp #peace #nooilspill
