Who's heard this one: "Anarchism is about the survival of the fittest." I know, I know, it makes me laugh too. The real problem is that holding such a view of anarchism demonstrates three problems in the speaker:
1. They understand neither the term "survival of the fittest", nor that humans are pack animals. We're the premiere super cooperators and our capacity for cooperation is a primary factor in our rise to the top of this planets food chain.
2. They haven't considered the long game... who wants to have to sleep with one eye open all the time? Who wants to worry about their offspring and loved ones all the time. I don't, and I don't know of anyone that really does.
3. They see themselves as civilized, but the rest of us are brutes barely kept in check by the threat of government violence.
I've had a different experience. I realize I'm not the only person capable of seeing the good in my neighbors or that social cooperation may be the single best means available to my achieving my desired ends. Finally, I realize you don't get social cooperation, and mutual support, beating each other on the head with clubs.
