Mid Autumn Festival is not here yet. It's only the first day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar. But the excitement is already there. I always love Mid Autumn Festival (which falls on the 15th day of the eighth month), better than Chinese New Year. This is usually an evening celebration after dinner time. My mom will prepare some food (light snacks) for prayer, i.e. yam, sugar cake, jellies, assorted fruits, and of course, mooncake. Relatives will come over to enjoy the snacks and chit chat away. Meanwhile, the kids will be busy with tanglung and candles. During my time, the kids loved to take tanglung and walked around the neighborhood (which is a rare scene nowadays). We might be even deemed weird doing this. But before my little Sean, 3.5yo has this peer pressure feeling, I would like to introduce this cultural activity to him. He did enjoy himself. I was carrying Kai (10mo) in a ringsling for the whole activity. Kai enjoyed looking at the beautiful tanglung too.
