I don't get to work with my student-athletes as much as I would like to due to a host of factors, such as school, homework, games, practices, and simply the fact that many are at the mercy of their parents getting them to and from the gym. So in addition to working on everything a young athlete needs to ensure long-term athletic development, our training program needs to be time-efficient as well. Take this paired set for example. @lukapolic worked up to a top set of 5 in the sumo deadlifts, and during his warmup sets, we took advantage of the lighter loads and lower rep count to work on rate of force development (RFD), a measure of explosive strength, or simply how fast an athlete can develop force, one of the most important traits an athlete can possess. Once we got to his heavier top sets, we took advantage of his rest periods by pairing up kneeling adductor mobilizations to not only enhance the bottom position during his deadlifts but also work on an area where soccer players commonly develop injuries known as sports hernias.
