well... this was one interesting ride from kalaw to mandalay!
beautiful, as we were driving the tiniest mountain roads but interesting, as "we" is equal to me and four random local people and we got stopped twice during the 6-7h car ride.
first some officers stopped us, checked what's in the trunk and let us continue. then later in the mountains 8 police officers (with their assault rifles and smaller guns) stopped us, told to get out of the car, to get our stuff out of the car - until they noticed this one western girl there. they literally all stopped what they were doing, stared at me, then smiled! asked what's my bag, didn't check it and walked me back to the car. the other peeps had to open e v e r y single bag and box and they all got checked. but mine. i just got smiles and friendly faces. which was nice of course, yet kinda odd.
anyway. after a long stop we continued to drive the narrow mountain roads and i was both enjoying the view and freaking out about the high possible fall down. and being unsure if as a tourist i was even allowed to be here in the first place.
hahah. what a trip!
too bad i don't have any proper pic about the roads, but you can see one small one in the background.
