What are Essential Oils?
Easy answer- they are the highly concentrated essence of plants, shrubs, herbs and trees.
More complex answer- they are composed of atoms and molecules. Each Essential Oil has a multitude of chemical constituents which allows an oil to have multiple uses. Some of the chemical constituents in them are alcohols (monoterpenols & sesquiterpenols), Esthers, ketones, lacotones, terpenoids (monoterpenes & sesquiterpenes), Oxides & phenols. Essential oils are fat soluble. Essential oils contain no proteins, amino acids, vitamins, hormones or enzymes (thus lessening the chance of an allergic reaction to an oil even if you are allergic to the plant).
