[A Video Game Showed Up]
Yomawari: Midnight Shadows (深夜廻)
I really like cute things but also horror stuff, so when those two extremes occasionally overlap I am pretty much sold.
That was the case with the PlayStation Vita-game, Yomawari: Night Alone (夜廻), which I loved from its initial japanese trailers, but since it was on that system which I was not sure would play on my PlayStationTV (VitaTV), and I had not seen any physical copies I never got to play it.
This sequel, however, is out for both PSVita and PS4 (and on Steam), so I made sure to order a copy once the price had dropped a little bit.
My quick testplay did not disappoint, and while controls are a bit wonky, the visuals are really to my taste, reminiscent of colorful SNES-titles of old but with a good amount of details and great lighting on the cute characters, freakish monsters, and atmospheric environments.
I am super-happy to finally own a Yomawari-game, and is really looking forward to playing this some more!

Also, I would like to commend Nippon Ichi Software for developing and releasing small games like Yomawari, htoL#NiQ, and upcoming Liar Princess and the Blind Prince (嘘つき姫と盲目王子), ao. which may only appeal to a niché crowd but is developed with alot of heart on a smaller budget.
So far, of the larger publishers, only UbiSoft has dared to do this in the recent years, and may even have given up on the idea by now — come on publishers, not every game needs the AAA budget and then be made by committee!
