A reflection on #nightinthewoods
The world doesn't care if you sink or swim. Maybe certain parts of the world do. There are certainly people who feel like they were raised or lucky or just naturally destined to be fun, empathetic, driven, and able to ride life's waves like surfers with a gleaming smile and an effortless kickflip.
But for a lot of us it sometimes feels like we were thrown in the water with our clothes still on, and many of us decide to drift back to shore than to push out to sea. Some come back with good humor and humbled expectations. Some come back awash with salt. Most wish they'd acted differently but few will admit it upfront.
So it is with the game Night in the Woods. If you don't sympathize with Mae and her untimely return home, her biting sarcasm and lonesome nostalgia, I'm glad for you. For me it makes the game almost uncomfortable to play, but it also feels that much more real.
So for all you Maes out there, we're in this together. We don't have to feel trapped by the past to move to the future. We don't have to bring people down to exude true wit. And we don't have to gauge our success by what we or anyone else expected of us. We're worthwhile no matter what anyone thinks! ...if you think this post was worthwhile, please like comment and subscr-
