Built in 1910, it's a city landmark, the only church remaining in the city by architect Nicholas Serracino. One of only a few with a dome and one of only two with stained glass windows from Chartres. The other is St. Patrick's Cathedral. #catholicchurch #dome #nicholasserracino #landmark #nyc

I love the Lexington Ave. portico of St. Jean Baptiste, a Catholic Church originally serving a French Canadian congregation and designed by the Italian American Architect Nicholas Serracino, breaking ground in 1910. The Limestone facade has a prominent, high plinth, supporting a tetrastyle corinthian portico that blends an Italian Renaissance revival and neoclassical style, Serracino's signature. Unfortunately, this is his only surviving church in NYC, a loss in my mind to the architecture fabric of the city! Not pictured are the two bell towers, whose spires are very reminiscent of the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates in Athens. #ues #neoclassical #classicalarchitecture #classicism #traditionalarchitecture #renaissancerevival #architecturelovers #limestone #pediment #portico #corinthianorder #stjeanbaptiste #nicholasserracino #tetrastyle
