1956 Chico High yearbook. UPDATE READ THIS: After investigating the photo I came across of a chopped 47'-48' Mercury in the 56' Chico yearbook (top photo) I remembered an article Rik Hoving wrote. Rik wrote about a Dick Bertolucci built 48' Merc owned by Johnny Lehman & Ron Zimmerman (bottom photo) on his website the custom car chronicle. The yearbook Mercury is without a doubt the same car as the Bertolucci built Mercury and here's why. They both have: chopped padded tops, frenched headlights, Appleton spotlights, shaved side trim, stock door handles, same ride height, 49' Mercury front bumper, antenna on drivers side and most importantly the Bertolucci built Mercury was traded off 1955 by a Chico High school student so the timeline and the location match up perfectly! At the time the yearbook photo was taken it was said that the new owners of the Mercury had abused the Bertolucci car and you can see that in the yearbook shot it has a primed repair spot. What does this mean? It's an unknown photo of a Bertolucci built car adding to the history and putting the puzzle together for this custom, and who knows it might still be hidden away in a Chico area garage!
