The knock on lateral raises done with free weights is that the first half of the movement is easy. Your shoulders start to really kick in only toward the top, when your arms are extended out from your sides. Bands, however, put tension on your muscles throughout the whole movement and make it harder at the end range of motion. If you thought bands were just making the best of a bad situation (no free weights), this workout will change your mind—and fry your shoulders.

Amount of Time to build muscle If you begin a healthy and average regimen of diet and strength training.....you can expect to begin showing your new muscle tone in as little as one month.
This means that you workout at least three days per week, eat well, sleep, hydrate, rest (days off) and make an effort to change your body on a regular basis.....Based on all of this, here's how fast you can expect to build muscle on average: Average Natural MAN: between 0.25 and 0.5 pounds of muscle per week (or about 1-2 pounds of muscle gained per month). Average Natural WOMAN: between 0.12 – 0.25 pounds of muscle per week (or about 0.5-1 pound of muscle gained per month).
