I stumbled recently upon Hamilton & Adams, a men’s shop in uptown Kingston. Owners Andrew Addotta and Clark Chaine opened their shop last spring. Andrew describes their typical customer, “He’s a guy who, at his core, is casual yet has occasion to dress up and down throughout the day and throughout his life.” The store has a mix of high and low items, as well as a selection of hand-crafted skincare for men.
Andrew has a background in retail operations (DKNY, GAP), while Clark is a marketing/advertising exec. The partners are avid explorers and this is expressed in the store’s tagline “Stay Curious”. They moved to the Hudson Valley in 2012 and chose Kingston because it is a historic city and for its sense of community. Andrew explains, “I see similar changes happening in Kingston as in many smaller towns in America. People want to be part of a community. We see repeat customers for whom the store has become a part of their lives and they come back to shop for birthdays and Christmas."
What's next for @hamiltonandadams “We want to expand into our own line of apparel and accessories this coming year”, says Andrew. In the meantime, check out their ever-changing and always smart display windows. And stop by in October when Hamilton Adams will be styling a closet in the showhouse bedroom.
As for the store's name? It's both partners' middle names and also evokes Kingston's rich history and the founding of this country.
