Quick Fix for DSS (Douchebag Shoulder Syndrome). DSS is a serious medical condition where your shoulders round unnaturally forward in front of your body. Caused by a sedentary lifestyle, too much bench pressing, and not enough stretching, this condition has plagued many bros and gals alike.
The banded bully is a quick stretch that will open up your chest and fight rounded shoulders. Make sure you brace your abs as you are executing this stretch. Thanks @hartrehab for the inspiration.
This stretch is also good prep for heavy pressing, dip, or olympic lifting days. When the shoulders open up and stay in the proper alignment near the back of the socket, we are able to prevent injury.
One last tip, after performing the banded bully on each side, I recommend getting a quick set of 5 ring rows with a 3-5 sec pause at the top. Focus on getting as much scapular retraction as possible at the top of the pull. I've found it is just as important to actively use the newfound range of motion as it is to stretch in the first place.
I love this type of "integrated mobility" because it allows you to build strength and stability within the new found range of motion you are trying to improve.
For all those diagnosed with DSS, there is hope. Stay strong, keep stretching, and one day the world might be douchebag shoulder-free once and for all. 🤞🌎🤣
