Wilson Didn't Win the Game...But We Celebrated Anyway!
A Wilson victory over Lincoln would have been nice icing on the cake as we celebrated Wilson's 1996 LA City 3A Championship football team. Our 2016 Mighty Mules gave it their best but came up short, at the 4th Annual Throwback Jersey game, with a final score of Wilson 6, Lincoln 35.
Though our scoreboard did not reflect a Wilson win, it did not diminish any of the joy or detract from the celebration of our 1996 Championship football team. From the pregame introductions to the coin toss ceremony to the halftime awards presentation, our 1996 honorees enjoyed every single minute. For one magical night, a tight knit group of 30-something year old brothers, felt like teenagers again, many wishing they could put pads on and get in the game. When the game ended the 1996 players and other Wilson alumni continued to celebrate their accomplishment at a post game party.
Special thanks to Councilmember Jose Huizar who provided the recognition certificates which read: "On behalf of the City of Los Angeles and the Fourteenth Council District, I would like to present you with this Certificate of Acknowledgement of your achievement as a member of Woodrow Wilson High School's 1996 Los Angeles City 3A Championship football team. Your squad exemplified unity and toughness. Your tenacious defense known as the "Hit Squad" and the teams "Never Flinch" competitive attitude culminated in your championship victory at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Your team has earned a permanent place of honor and distinction in Wilson Mules football history". Special thanks also to all of our loyal Wilson alumni and friends who supported of the Throwback Jersey fundraising campaign which directly benefits the Wilson Mules football program.
Once again, congratulations to our 1996 LA City Champs!
