The recently posted systematic review and meta analysis, supports two methods of neural mobilizations achieved though active exercises (slider/tensioning techniques) or passive techniques (cervical lateral glides or lumbar foraminal openings). There was evidence to support the use of neural mobilizations for nerve-related neck and arm pain. Today's post will go over a neural mobilization for this area of the body.
Median nerve mobilizations can be performed in sitting or standing. Start by lifting the affected arm out to the side. Keep the elbow extended and side bend the head towards the arm as you extend the wrist. While keeping the elbow extended side bend the head away from the lifted arm and flex the wrist. Move between these two positions to perform the neural mobilization.
Neural mobilizations can be performed throughout the day 2 to 3 sets for 10 repetitions. Theses are one variation of neural mobilizations to address nerve-related neck and arm pain. There are many different variations of neural mobilizations. Try to ease into the available range of motion, it is important to not fully tension the neural system in the beginning stages of the exercise.
