Daylight savings time change, hopping time zones, and staying up late on the weekends disrupts your inner rhythms which can effect sleep patterns. New research on circadian rhythms is confirming what Ayurveda has believed for centuries. We have an internal clock that is in sync with the rhythms of nature's light and dark cycle. ⠀

Try these tips for syncing up with nature’s rhythms:⠀

ROUTINE. Stick with routine times for sleeping and waking, even through the weekends. ⠀

DIGEST. Eat at set regular meal times each day. Eat your largest meal at lunch, having a light dinner before 7 pm.⠀

SLEEP MILK. Drink a cup of warm milk with a pinch of nutmeg, cardamom and saffron before bed. ⠀

SIGN OFF. Close down screens two hours before bedtime. Tuck in and turn out your lights between 9-10 pm. ⠀

“I began to see Dr. Nikki again in August 2018 after having been out of the area for several months. I was 32 weeks pregnant and wanted the help and comfort both during pregnancy and labor that regular prenatal chiropractic care provides. I was so happy to find out that Dr. Nikki was focusing more of her care on pregnant mommas like me, as well as postpartum moms and babies. I was especially grateful for Dr. Nikki’s intervention when, at my 38 week prenatal check up with my midwife, my baby was found to suddenly be full on breech. I called Dr. Nikki to find out if she could help and she said that yes, she was Webster Technique trained and ready to help me create a favorable physical environment in my abdomen for baby to turn in. My midwife recommended an External Cephalic Version, so I only had 4 days to help baby turn naturally. Dr. Nikki saw me each of those 4 days, coming into the office when she did not have office hours just to help me for two of those appointments. I also did many exercises recommended to help a breech baby flip. Although I never felt a large jump, when the doctor did an ultrasound before the ECV procedure, baby had already turned head down! I continued to see Dr. Nikki until I gave birth. Baby stayed head down and I was able to have the natural, vaginal delivery that I desired. Thank you, Dr. Nikki, for serving me and many other women in Central NY.” ⠀

Part One
Autonomic Nervous System consists of two complimentary divisions -
1. Sympathetic Nervous System
2. Parasympathetic Nervous System

This nervous system is responsible for control of the bodily functions not consciously directed, such as breathing, the heartbeat and digestion.

Both parts of your autonomic system require two neurons in order to work.
These meet in what’s known as your ganglia (clusters of neuron cell bodies that house millions of synapses)

Sympathetic System-
Nerves Originates in the thoracolumbar area thoracic vertebrae where your ribs attach to the lumbar vertebrae which are inferior to your ribs.

Sympathetic Ganglia are found closer to the spinal cord - Due to this being your fight or flight mode in moments of high excitement or stress, they need to send a single message to all the other neurons this way sending a single excitatory signal to the ganglia near the spine, can then trigger action potentials to all the other neurons. Which can then lead to many other effectors such as the heart, lungs and adrenal glands.

Parasympathetic System-
Ganglia found way out from the spine, near or even inside of their effector organs.

Craniosacral - They are located from the base of your brain & just superior to your tailbone.

These are responsible for taking care of particular functions such as digesting food or excreting waste.
Their neurons themselves have slightly different forms, specifically the length of their Axons.

Part Two - will be looking more in depth to the Sympathetic Nervous System & Parasympathetic Nervous System.

What is epilepsy?
It’s central nervous system (neurological) disorder where brain activity becomes abnormal, causing seizures or periods of unusual behavior (an aura for example; I will explain what an aura is in a future post), sensations, and sometimes loss of awareness.
Who can have a seizure?
ANYONE under the “right” circumstances. “Right” circumstances as in those that catalyze or trigger seizures.

We as humans need time to adjust to change. It can be a challenge to ground yourself consistently within the ups and downs, actions and reactions, and range of feelings that come up on any given day. If you’re not “rooted”, or without a strong sense of your feet on the ground, it is very easy to get pulled all over the place.

How do you get grounded, then? You start through PHYSICAL SENSATION. Like I said, start with a literal sensation of feet on the ground, solid weight on the earth that belongs to you. If your attention gets pulled out by external distractions, gently bring yourself back to your sensation of feet in the floor.

Then the BREATH comes in. The breath is a tool to stay present with discomfort, which is a vital aspect of the growing/healing process. You might send your breath to a specific body part. The more you can tolerate discomfort in your physical emotional self, and the more you can GENTLY ACCEPT WHERE YOU ARE TODAY, the more potential there is for change and healing.
