Back to London! 💗 ‘Interior Quadrangle, Somerset House’ was drawn by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd and engraved on steel by W. Deeble, for Shepherd’s “Metropolitan Improvements; or London in the Nineteenth Century.” It was published by Jones & Co. of Temple of the Muses, Finsbury in 1831. This print measures 5 1/2 x 8 3/8 inches, and look at all the fun detail! To see this and more English prints, come and visit our website! 🇬🇧🎩🏛🖼

Duncombe Park,Yorkshire, England. This majestic house sits in 450 acres of spectacular gardens and parklands, forming part of the North York Moors National Park. The house was completed in1713 but was sadly gutted by fire in1879 and remained a ruin until restoration work began in 1895. One hundred years later and after being a school for a number of years it was once again restored to become the private family home that stands today. Unfortunately since 2011it has been closed to the public.

The necessity of ruin - remnants of the (originally Georgian) 1753 Sheldon Episcopal Church. Burned not once but twice, (by the British under Prevost in 1779 and again by Sherman in 1865) it was said to rival the original St. Philips in grandeur. My understanding is that the remaining brick walls and portico columns are from the original 18th c. Georgian construction. .
