Welcome to Le Marais, set across Paris's 3rd and 4th arrondissements on the right bank of the River Seine. Wander the labyrinthine lanes, and within minutes you will see an eclectic mix of people and fashion. If France is all about liberté, égalité, fraternité then there's no area that better represents this than Le Marais. With its mix of cultures from Jewish to LGBTQ, all live in the area harmoniously bringing their sense of style, culture and cuisine. Once home to the aristocracy, these days Le Marais is less posh, more street with a little bit of gentrification thrown into the mix. Here you can be free in your style expression whether your penchant is for streetwear, something black and edgy like the selection at Springsioux on 19 Rue Charlot or something luxurious like the jewellery, watches and metallic bags at Verdino a few doors down at number 10. You can get a move on in a new pair of classic boots or leather sneakers at Schmoove, 44 Rue du Temple or celebrate everything Portuguese at eNeNe with more than 80 designers showcasing creations like clothes, gourmet food and items for the home. This small medieval area has it all; it is one of the best representations of 'old Paris' and yet, so thoroughly modern; a flagbearer for how things should be. For all those who love freedom, tolerance and for the sartorial seditionaries - Vive Le Marais révolution!
#NeighborhoodStyle is a series of explorations through areas around the globe, where locals show us the style, their favourite hangouts and places to shop.
