Sprouts are considered the wonder food! Due to their high nutritional value, sprouts should be on your plate at least 3 times a week. The health benefits include: improving the digestive process, boosts the metabolism, increases enzymatic activity throughout the body, prevents anemia, aids in weight loss, lowers cholesterol, reduces blood pressure, prevents neural tube defects in infants, protects against cancer, boosts skin health, improves vision and supports the immune system. Here is an easy way to always have sprouts available to you. Grow your own sprouts in a mason jar! Trust us- it's super easy & fun!
What you'll need: 1 wide-mouth quart size jar, mesh or cheesecloth and something to secure it to the jar, 2 TBSP of any seed (alfalfa, broccoli, radish, mung or sunflower). Now you're ready to sprout. Place 2 TBSP of seeds in jar and cover with a few inches of water and secure mesh on top. Let soak overnight. Leaving mesh on, drain seeds and rinse them, then drain again. Find an area out of direct sunlight and place jar upside down in a bowl, but at an angle, to allow drainage and air circulation through the mesh. Rinse and drain seeds twice a day making sure they never dry out. As soon as they are big enough, it's time to harvest! This should take about 3 days & is a fun process watching them grow. Give them a final rinse and allow them to drain very well in a colander. Once they're dry, store them in the refrigerator and enjoy!
