One of my favorite mommy activities has been learning the art of natural dyeing! 🌈 It takes a lot of patience, trial & error and reading. Dyeing is a magical process!
So, I started dyeing baby clothes that my mamma had saved for me and my sister because I didn't want gender-colored clothing and that's what I inherited for the most part (besides some truly awesome Scandinavian pieces). Anna and I were dressed in both pink and blue; things given to my mom who just used what she had without trend in mind... (By the way, I was called a boy often throughout my childhood because of these 'boy' clothes, my looks and my behavior whatever that means. I also had the name Anders picked out for me while in the womb.) To me gender-colored baby clothing and things seem super strange and a reflection of a culture sickly obsessed with separating people by their genitalia... why do we need to do this to babies? Why is everyone's first question 'do you know what you're having??' I'm having a little human that's what I'm having!

Anywho there are so many colors to celebrate and adorn our babes in! I've been trying to create a variety of shades using cutch wood, black walnuts, indigo, osage, sandalwood and others... yes some are pink and some are blue but created in a spirit of appreciation for the natural colors that plants provide! This is also a cheap and fun way to vibe up those packs of white onesies πŸ™‚
My baby is much more than whatever physical gender it bears. I hope that my friends and family can honor them for whatever they choose to be and don't project onto them. πŸ’œπŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’›β€οΈ We are very much looking forward to spring and greeting our elfling! (Also, I'm not judging anyone who dresses their baby in boy or girl specific clothing. I'm sure my baby will wear such attire at times too.)
