Me ft. first ever selfies I've taken without trying to hide my big ol' Semitic nose! I have always used angles, facial expressions, contouring, never smiling fully and even photoshopping pics to make my nose look petite, cute, and fit a westernised beauty ideal that says my natural features aren't beautiful.
Women with a big nose, curly frizzy hair, unruly eyebrows and lots of other commonly Jewish features often appear in the media only as a 'before' of a makeover - and this can make not only accepting your own appearance, but embracing your individual beauty incredibly difficult.
So after years of contouring my nose to look smaller, straightening my hair every single day till it fried and fell out, panicking as my naturally blonde hair grew darker, and holding on to things like my blue-green eyes and pale skin as my only 'good' features, I'm done.
Here I am - and I love me, including the things that make me different.
