Way to bounce back, boys. Max Scherzer pitched yet another gem, Trea Turner should've been arrested for how many bases he stole, and the Nats' knocked former Cy-Young Jake Arrieta around to all fields in a 6-1 win.
Arrieta went only 4 innings tonight, mostly due to the constant mind games the Nats played on him on the basepaths. Turner stole 4 bags in the first three innings, leading the team to 7 total. There was constant pressure. The aggressiveness allowed the power hitters to do their job with Arrieta's focus often away from the hitter. Tonight showed just a bit of the elite kind of baseball this team has the potential to play each and every night.
We've seen it before and we saw it again...Scherzer gives us a new reason each start to crown him the best pitcher in the game. His line was impeccable; the ace went 6 strong innings on 93 pitches, 2 hits, and just 1 earned. He retired 16 of his last 17!
The contributions of Michael Taylor and Brian Goodwin have been extremely impressive. Werth's absence, originally though to limit the offense a bit, has done the opposite. You have to think one of these guys is gone at the deadline...the organization's outfield group is just overflowing with talent. #onepursuit
