#TheBurningKorea (#LaCoréeEnFeu) by #JackLondon
Yes, I’m Asian and I’m from the Third World Countries decolonized in mid 20th century. But when I grow up, all recommended book list for my age is composed of the male authors from the First World Countries who believe they have “special instinct of conquest”. And I absorbed that mindlessly; I’d read #NationalGeographic with their view of “First World White Men” and assumed someday I could be one of them. And a few years later, the pumpkin time came and I’ve suffered serious depression. Listen, book-geeks-smart-but-not-caucasian-and-born-in-Confucian-not-so-rich-background-girls! DREAM ON! YOU COULD NEVER BE LIKE THAT!
Was I unpleasant while reading this book granted that? NO!! It was pure pleasure to read this full of genuine brilliant sarcasm!! What my favorite part was this; “If he were sensitive, he might have spent most of the time falling into a dilemma; One is urge to kill Korean and the other is to kill himself.” I couldn’t help laughing for about at least 5 minutes! I can totally understand him! I think the Roman #Catholic really canonize Mr. London as a Saint of Patience, but he’s bloody #British!! Gosh! Jesus #Henry8!! The Catholics lost a great Saint because of YOU!! And there’s a very impressive young boy, “Maniung”. He’s smart, very good at English and wearing a nice European garçon attire, employeed by the author and gave him lots of help. I really wanna know how that little boy could get and be proficient that skills. When they were passing by Pyongyang, Maniung heard the aristocrat of that area, Mr.Park was very corrupt and habitually extorting money and goods of the local residents. He learned in a briefly space of time the concept of #liberty, #equality and #fraternity and expect to his savior and boss, the stranger a.k.a Mr. London, who could be the Saint of Patience! The author was compelled to go to the Bastille, the aristocrat’s house, and screwed a promise out of him to return the money absentmindedly. But everybody knew even Maniung that he was not gonna do that! I HAVE THE VERY FAMILIAR EXPERIENCE!! Things do not change, and people either!.
