Today's 'one a day' I've started by featuring women who's birthdays fall on the day I'm drawing them. So today it's Nancy Kulp 1921-1991 (69) American actress.
Nancy studied Journalism and then went on to study English and French. Early in the 1940s she worked as a feature writer for the Miami Beach Tropics newspaper, writing profiles of celebrities. In 1944 Nancy left university to volunteer for service in the US Naval Reserve (WAVES) during World War II, leaving service in 1946.
Moving to Hollywood in the 50s she became a character actress working in various films, TV shows and theatre. In 1962, she landed her breakout TV role of Jane Hathaway, the love-starved, bird-watcher in The Beverly Hillbillies and stayed with the show until it was axed in 1971.
In 1984, after working with the Democratic state committee in her home state of Pennsylvania "on a variety of projects" over a period of years, Kulp ran unopposed as the Democratic nominee for the United States House of Representatives. To her dismay, Hillbillies co-star Buddy Ebsen (who played Jed Clampett) called her opposition campaigner and volunteered to make a radio campaign ad in which he called Kulp "too liberal."
After her defeat, she worked as an artist-in-residence at Juniata College and later she taught acting.

Chief!!! Later in life, Kulp indicated to author Boze Hadleigh in a 1989 interview, that she was a lesbian. "As long as you reproduce my reply word for word, and the question, you may use it.... I'd appreciate it if you'd let me phrase the question. There is more than one way. Here's how I would ask it: 'Do you think that opposites attract?' My own reply would be that I'm the other sort – I find that birds of a feather flock together. That answers your question."

Another Hutchie style icon: Nancy Kulp as Jane Hathaway. She's also fantastic in The Parent Trap. Love her "1930's women's college grad making the best of the 1960s" thing. #nancykulp #janehathaway #hutchiegal

John, my husband, (keyboard), Micah (banjo), Chris (guitar), and Ben, my son, (double bass) play "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" in our living room during a jam.
"Foggy Mountain Breakdown" is a bluegrass instrumental written by Earl Scruggs. It was recorded in 1949 by Flatt and Scruggs and The Foggy Mountain Boys. It's considered a bluegrass standard. Earl Eugene Scruggs was an American musician who popularized the three-finger banjo picking style called the "Scruggs" style--a defining characteristic of bluegrass music.
Scruggs received four Grammy awards, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and the National Medal of Arts. 🏅He also became a member of the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and was given a star ⭐️ on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 1985, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs were inducted together into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
🎶Come and listen to a story 'bout a man named Jed...poor mountaineer barely kept his family fed...then one day he was shooting for some food, and up through the ground come a bubbling crude (oil that is, black gold, Texas tea)🎶
Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs brought bluegrass music 🎼 into mainstream popularity in the early 1960s with this country hit, "The Ballad of Jed Clampett," the theme music for the successful sitcom "The Beverly Hillbillies." It was the first bluegrass recording 🎧 to reach number one on the Billboard charts.
May the saints protect you, and sorrow neglect you, and bad luck to the one that don't respect you...g'night, everybody! From our home 🏡 to yours...✨🌙✨

As a young Black female who did comedy with emphasis on impressions, I did not have the luxury of doing a #WhoopiGoldberg, or a #MichelleObama or a #MoNiqueLove. They just weren't around at that time for me to imitate.
Fortunately people like #LilyTomlin, #NancyKulp, #Cher, #JoanRivers and others were.
There was no mentor nor anyone to pattern behind in the area of impressions other than #richlittle so a sister was strictly on her own.
I added #DianaRoss, #TinaTurner, #DionneWarwick and others as time moved on.
Today I also have #ErykaBadu, an older #NikiMinaj, #Rhiana #BrittneySpears and am also bringing made up characters no one has seen, yet. Some of you have experienced portions of the #jellybeansfromheaven segment where I present to some and introduce to others some of the greatest entertainers of all times which include #ellafitzgerald, #ettajames, #billieholiday, #katherinehepburn, #bettydavis and of course the legendary gospel singer #mahaliajackson. #NatalieCole will be added to that group. The trailer to the documentary #ALegendAmongUs is out. You can watch it on YouTube under #SylviaTraymore. Happy new year! #firstblackfemaleimpressionist #blackgirlsrock #blackgirlmagic

🎥When a retired opera singer leaves her inheritance to her cat, Duchess, and three kittens, the woman's butler drugs the cats and abandons them in the countryside in order to inherit the fortune himself. Lost in unfamiliar territory, Duchess and the kittens meet Thomas O'Malley, an alley cat willing to help them return to their home in Paris. They meet several kooky characters along the way, including two English geese and an alley cat jazz band.

Am I weird for having a massive crush on Nancy Kulp? The actress is best known for her role as the bird-watching spinster Jane Hathaway who loved Jethro on the Beverly Hillbillies. In real life, she had a bachelor's in journalism, a masters in English and French, volunteered for the army, was married at 30, divorced by 40. She supposedly confessed to being gay to Boze Hadleigh, the author known for outing celebrities after they die (when they can't sue). She was known for being a very prim and proper character actress and even her coming-out to Hadleigh is quite elegant. She compared lesbianism to "birds of a feather flocking together." I think she looks quite femme here, but if you Google her in the late 70s, she gets butcher in that Billie Jean King sorta way. Times had become more lenient. She ran for public office but lost and was accused by Buddy Ebsen, her co-star, of being too liberal. Sadly, she died at 69 of cancer. Weirdly, her middle name is Jane. Holland Taylor should play Kulp if they ever do a biopic, IMHO. #nancykulp #beverlyhillbillies #lesbian #celesbian #girlswhokissgirls #girlswholikegirls
