Herman Smorenburg, is a 56 year old artist from Alkmaar, Netherlands. He can only be described as a hidden living Grand Master. His unmatched imagination and artistic skill, consequently bring onlookers to new levels of consciousness.
Herman Somorenburg was born in Alkmaar, Holland (1958). After his art study in Amsterdam, he studied the classical technique of glazing over a monochrome underground painting. This resulted in a manner of working which is characterised by subtlety of colour effect and delicate degrees of light and shadow. His themes are determined by mythical and visionary landscapes, sometimes with architectural elements which points to a bygone era. Mainly female figured populate the world of his dreams. They invite the onlooker to step into the desolate landscape and to experience the silence and serious of his dreams.
His deep wisdoms and highly skilled techniques through the brush can only result in an ultimate satisfaction for his observers. This painting entitled "the gift" is nothing but a gift to the naked eye for art enthusiasts. The three muti-layered, different worlds-like realms seem to blend perfectly behind a magnificently, beautifully created women, who is submerged in a rich blue silk. When studied closely the women seems to be in thought..which pulls the observer into deep thought over her thoughts. What is she thinking? Is this a dream world behind her? Are her thoughts causing the turbulent weather? These stimulating questions always seem to arise from a Smorenburg painting. His imagination always meets the par of his talent, which is why he is such an extraordinary, powerful artist. The magnificently executed clouds, lighting, architecture of the pillars, to the mountainous landscape and the central figure are all individual pieces of greatness on their own, so to have this all on one frame is nothing but a great 'gift'. His collections is a must see.
