DON’T YOU FORGET ABOUT ME
The nostalgia factor is high on this one, and if you’re a Gen Xer like me, you will be in heaven with all of Grady Hendrix’s 80’s pop culture references. I mean an ET themed birthday party at a roller skating rink sounds like a dream come true to my 10 year old self. Actually, that still sounds pretty awesome!
BEDS ARE BURNING
“By the power of Phil Collins, I rebuke you!” she said. “By the power of Phil Collins, who knows that you coming back to me is against all odds, in his name I command you to leave this servant of Genesis alone.” 😂
I WOULD DIE 4 U
On the cover, it is described as “an unholy hybrid of Beaches and The Exorcist”. (Honestly, how could you not want to read that!) And that crazy mash up is exactly what makes this book so wonderful. The story of Abby and Gretchen’s friendship takes you on a journey back in time in the first half of the book, and as a result, the genuinely creepy moments, when they do appear, are all the more startling.
LIKE A PRAYER
The use of song titles for the chapter headings is genius and adds so much to the storytelling. Reading it feels like taking all your favourite John Hughes movies and mashing them together with some classic horror movies and then spitting it out in a funny, cheesy, nostalgic, creepy mess. I loved it! 🌟🌟🌟🌟 #horrorfan #horrorreader #gradyhendrix #quirkbooks #librarygram #readwiththelightson #mybestfriendsexorcism
